The Impossible Hero

One product, one headline. Build the interactive 3D hero it deserves.

The brief

Everyone gets the same fictional product and the same messaging. Build an exceptional interactive 3D hero section for it. Not a tech demo with a headline stapled on: a real product hero where the 3D work makes the pitch land harder.

Fixed inputs

Product. Fathom, a fictional ocean intelligence platform. A network of autonomous sensor buoys streams currents, temperature, and marine traffic into one live model of the ocean, with an API for shipping, energy, and climate teams.

Headline. See the ocean like a system.

Supporting copy. Fathom's autonomous sensor network turns the world's least understood surface into live, queryable data. Currents, temperature, traffic, and weather in one model, from one API.

Primary call to action. Request early access.

Secondary call to action. Explore the live map.

Use this copy exactly. The rest of the page is out of scope: the hero section is the deliverable.

Required features

These are the floor. Hit all of them or you're not in the running.

  • An interactive 3D element that responds to the visitor and reinforces what Fathom is
  • The supplied headline, copy, and calls to action, readable and usable at all times
  • A thoughtful mobile fallback, and reduced motion preferences respected
  • Usable on ordinary hardware: interactive within five seconds on a mid-range laptop
  • No pre-rendered video standing in for real interaction

Bonus

The required list makes builds comparable. Everything above it is where you win.

  • A 3D concept that could only belong to this product, not a stock scene with a logo floating in it
  • Detail that rewards a second look: light, motion, and depth used with restraint
  • Graceful degradation that still feels premium on old hardware
  • Anything that makes a voter scroll back up to play with it again

Constraints

  • Must be deployed to a public URL.
  • Repo must be public.
  • Built during the build window. Commit history is the receipt.
  • No templates or minimally modified demo scenes.

How it's judged

Community vote during the voting window. One upvote per submission. Top 3 take a trophy. Voters are asked to reward visual impact, originality, how the 3D concept ties to the product, performance, accessibility, usability, and polish.
